Two studio drumming masterpieces, if you asked me...
On the Chaka Kahn dvd 'Live @ the jazz central' Vinnie plays a fill on the first song 'Dark secret'. Its somewhere in the midle of the song. After the fill you see Melvin Lee Davis shaking his head, i thing he to wonders what the f*** just happend!!
The groove on Now I'm Free by Andy Summers (Earth and Sky), one of Vinnie's classics, but a great one and very hard to do.
I recommend the solo from Thanks 2 Frank, Track 8-Indian Time Zones. I can get you the track if you don't have it.
I'm doing some transcriptions for an article on Vinnie. These will be excerpts, not entire tunes. I've done a bunch already, but thought I'd get some suggestions from you guys in case I've overlooked something good. I'm doing about half rock stuff, and half jazz/fusion stuff. It could be a groove, a fill, a break or a solo. I'm also trying not to do a lot of stuff that's already been transcribed - though I'll probably redo a few common requests. Any ideas are welcome - as are links to mp3's (since I've already spent my budget for the article). Thanks in advance!
